MacoDesigns

An architecture studio with an interiors line

Maco Designs is a Malé architecture studio whose project pages run from three 15-storey towers in Hulhumalé Phase 2 to a park on Villingili in Gaafu Alifu atoll. Its home page says the studio was established in 2013, and the site's page description gives 2017 as the year it was registered. The same page names residential, commercial, hospitality, educational, healthcare and cultural projects as its fields.

Interior design, from first brief to finished room

Interior design is one of its four main service lines, next to architectural and structural design and landscape modelling. Its Interior page says each interior is shaped around the client's needs, and that its designers work with clients to understand their vision. The page follows that work from concept to completion.

Its Exterior page offers design for houses and commercial buildings, both inside and out. That page also speaks of a collaborative approach and transparent communication with each client.

Drawings, structure and building services

Its wider service list adds land-use and master plans, realistic renderings, as-built drawings, mechanical and electrical design, and structural assessment. As-built drawings record a building as it was really finished, including changes made on site. A structural assessment checks whether walls, beams and slabs can carry a planned change.

Projects on its website

Its MPL Tower page, dated 7 January 2018, covers concept design, architectural and structural drawings with services, and 3D visuals for three towers of 15 storeys each in Hulhumalé Phase 2. The SJ Mall page, from April 2019, covers the same kind of work for a three-storey mall in Hulhumalé Phase 1.

For a 100-unit housing project at Thimarafushi, dated November 2020, the page adds structural design with a bill of quantities. A bill of quantities lists every material and task with its amount, so that builders price the same job. Its 2025 entries are Villingili Park Phase 1 and the concept design for a football stadium.

Enquiries and opening hours

Its PinkBazaar listing places it under interior designers in Malé and takes enquiries by phone or WhatsApp. Opening hours on that listing run from nine to half past five, Saturday to Thursday, and Friday is closed. Its Local.mv listing, published in January 2020, files it under architects and interior designers.

Questions before you commission drawings or an interior

Its list of services includes structural assessment. These questions are general guidance for anyone hiring an architect or interior designer, not statements about Maco Designs. If a change needs a permit or your building's consent, ask who prepares and submits the drawings, and who answers any queries that follow. Before any wall comes down, ask whether a structural engineer will check it and sign the change off in writing.

Realistic rendering is another listed service. Ask how many rounds of changes to the 3D visuals are included before the drawings are fixed. Ask whether the studio only designs the interior or also supervises the builder, and who will be your single contact on site. At handover, ask for a full set of as-built drawings, so later repairs start from an accurate plan.
