Satlink Online

Fibre broadband with live Maldivian TV

Satlink Online Pvt Ltd, which its About page says was established in April 2009, runs fibre and wireless internet for homes and businesses from Malé. Its home page puts live local TV alongside the internet service, together with wider IT work across the Maldives.

Plans for the home, the office and on the move

The packages page sorts plans into home, business and wifi groups. Home plans are pitched at streaming, gaming, working from home and family use. For its home and business plans, the page says that once the fair-usage allowance runs out the line slows down.

Business plans give offices, shops and operators larger allowances and dedicated capacity. Its wifi packages are pay-as-you-go and work on any Satlink access point.

Local channels on any screen

According to its Live TV page, every Satlink internet plan includes the local channels, and no decoder box is needed. Viewers can watch in HD on a phone, tablet, laptop or TV. The line-up includes Television Maldives, PSM News, Yes TV, Raajje TV, Villa Television and Sangu TV, and the page says new channels are added regularly.

How far the network runs

Its About page says that by 2013, working with Raajje Online, its network stretched from Malé to Ihavandhoo in Haa Alif (HA.) atoll. The coverage page adds that the network keeps growing southwards and shows live coverage on a map. Its About page names the technologies too: an HFC backbone, mixing fibre with TV-style coaxial cable, plus GPON fibre and wireless distribution across the atolls. GPON is a fibre system in which one line from the exchange is split to serve many homes.

Joining and getting help

Its coverage page says the team checks whether your address is covered before you sign up. After an online application, Satlink confirms coverage and books the installation. Existing customers use its customer portal to manage the account, pay invoices and report a fault.

The contact page lists separate phone lines for support and for new customers, an email address, a message form and an office in Malé to visit. Its home page describes an operations centre that runs around the clock.

Phone systems, security and a parts shop

Beyond broadband, the home page lists IP PBX office phone systems, VoIP calling, bandwidth management, access control and CCTV. It designs and builds core networks, large wireless networks and cable or internet TV systems, and offers hosting servers for media platforms. The Satlink Store sells routers, including a Mikrotik model, along with cables, connectors, fibre accessories and UPS units, batteries that keep kit running in a power cut.

Before the installer arrives

Installation is booked once coverage is confirmed, its coverage page says. Treat the tips below as general guidance for any new home internet line, not as claims about Satlink Online. Agree where the router will sit, how the cable gets from the building entrance to your flat, and who will push Wi-Fi out to distant rooms.

Its shop stocks routers as well as the connection itself. Ask where the provider's job ends: the line and router only, or the cabling and Wi-Fi inside your home as well.

The TV channels stream to phones, tablets, laptops and TVs. For TV over the internet, check which app or device each screen needs and how to report a channel that stops playing.
