IMNA Pest Control

Founded in 1999, based in Malé

IMNA Pest Control was established in 1999, its website says, to control pests in the Maldives when the community saw little need for it. Its website and its listing on Local.mv, a Maldives business directory, published in January 2020, both date its service to the community from 1999. Its Maldives YP listing gives the company name as Imna Pest Control (pvt) Ltd, based in Malé.

Inspection comes first

Its website says the team inspects first, to identify and isolate the nature of each infestation before a treatment begins. The About page adds that it sets an action threshold to limit the economic loss a treatment can cause. An action threshold is the point at which pest numbers justify treatment.

The same page describes education and training on non-chemical measures that reduce the need for pesticides. The page names industry, government and homeowners among those it serves.

Homes, resorts and buildings

Its Local.mv listing describes residential control of termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes, cockroaches and rodents. For resorts, the listing names a general pest control service. Its About page lists clients including Olhuveli Beach and Spa Resort, Taj Coral Reef Maldives and Island Aviation Services.

The Service page names bed bug, fly, mosquito, rodent and termite control. It also offers bird control, odour control and restroom care, the upkeep of a building's washrooms. Odour work starts with an inspection to trace the source of the smell, the page says. For bed bugs and termites, its About page describes a process that assesses the home, puts solutions in place and keeps watch.

Asking for a visit

Its home page has a short enquiry form with options for termites, bed bugs, flies, mosquitoes and general pests. The site also takes requests by phone and email, and through a Schedule Service form.

Questions worth asking any pest-control firm

IMNA's Service page describes mosquito work that begins with a specialist assessing the property. Treat these as general advice for any pest-control job, from a flat to a resort. Ask for the inspection findings in writing: which pest, where it breeds or nests, and the plan to deal with it.

Its termite note says termites feed on cellulose, including structural timbers, flooring, doors and door frames. Cellulose is the main material in wood and paper. For termites, ask which parts of the building will be treated and how the team will check later that the colony is gone.

Its About page says it serves industry, government and homeowners. For a guest house, restaurant or office, ask how many visits a year a contract includes, what each visit checks and how call-outs in between are charged.

Its Service page notes that rodents can chew through walls and electrical wiring. For rats or mice, ask how the team will find where they get in, and whether sealing those gaps is part of the job.
