Bright Brothers

From a small repair business to two service centres

Its About Us page traces Bright Brothers to 1984, when two brothers started a small business to service and repair refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment in the Maldives. Its home page says the company now has more than thirty years of experience in refrigeration and air-conditioning services. Its field teams work from its own service centres in Malé and Hulhumalé.

Its division page says the young firm also built chest freezers, display chillers and walk-in freezer containers. The same page describes a multi-storey building that puts all its refrigeration and air-conditioning work facilities under one roof. In 1997 the partnership became a limited company, Bright Brothers Private Limited.

Workshop services, from design to upkeep

The division page opens its list of workshop services with cooling load calculation and the design of air-conditioning systems. A cooling load calculation works out how much cooling a room or building needs, so the equipment is sized to match. The list continues with supply of all types of air conditioners, and their installation and commissioning. Commissioning is the last round of checks that proves a new system runs as designed. After-sales service, preventive maintenance and repairs come next on the list.

The workshop also supplies and installs pre-fabricated reefer containers. A reefer container is a refrigerated steel box that works as a ready-made cold store. Its Local.mv listings file the business under air conditioners, AC servicing and repair, and refrigerators and chest freezers. The division page adds that the company supplies refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment from makers across the globe.

Showcase outlet, head office and enquiries

Besides the two service centres, its outlets page lists Bright Brothers Showcase in Malé, which displays refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and spare parts. Its head office is also in Malé. The contact page welcomes enquiries through an online form, and lists phone and email contacts. Its home page adds that the same company runs the AGORA supermarket chain and ARGO fisheries, marine and fuel services.

Questions to settle before you book

Preventive maintenance is one of the workshop services on its division page. The questions here are general guidance for anyone booking AC or refrigeration work, not statements about Bright Brothers. Before you sign an AMC, a yearly maintenance contract, ask how many visits it includes, what each visit checks, and how a breakdown between visits is charged. For a routine service, ask whether the outdoor unit is cleaned as well as the indoor one, and whether the coil gets a chemical wash or plain water.

Supply, installation and commissioning sit on the same list. For a new unit, ask where the outdoor part will be mounted and how the team will reach that spot safely. If one firm sells and fits the unit, ask who deals with the maker over a warranty claim, and how long the fitting work itself is covered.

Repairs are on its workshop list as well. When a compressor or circuit board is suspected, ask for a diagnosis first, then a repair figure set beside the cost of a new unit.
