Its About page says VIRTUAL technologies was founded in Malé in 2006, and it describes itself as a managed services provider and ICT consultancy. A managed services provider looks after a client's computers and networks under an ongoing contract. Its website says it has served Maldivian businesses for twenty-plus years, from the heart of Malé to remote island resorts.

Sectors it serves

Its Industries page lists hospitality and resorts, construction, trading and retail, government and NGOs, telecoms, education, logistics and professional services. For resorts, it handles guest Wi-Fi, PMS and POS links, IPTV, CCTV and villa cabling. PMS and POS are a hotel's booking system and its tills. Past resort work named there includes W Retreat & Spa Maldives and Sheraton Full Moon.

On building sites, it provides building-wide cabling, IP CCTV, telephony and access control, working alongside main contractors and MEP teams, the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers. Retailers and wholesalers get multi-site networks, POS and managed IT, and the page speaks of multi-location operations in Malé and the atolls. For schools and colleges, it lists data, phone and TV networks.

Cabling and network projects

Its infrastructure page offers turnkey projects from design through to handover. Its contact page lists office hours of Saturday to Thursday, nine to five, and round-the-clock emergency support for contract clients.

Its About page lists it as a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) and names reseller and distribution agreements with Microsoft, Fortinet, Sophos, D-Link and Symantec. The home page adds Fortinet and Sophos certified solutions. Its office is in Malé City (Malé), and enquiries go by phone or email.

Points to raise before you sign

Office and guest networks fall under its support contracts. Here is general guidance worth raising with any IT or network company; it makes no claim about VIRTUAL technologies. Your internet provider looks after the line into the building. Ask who supports the router, switches and Wi-Fi inside, and how you reach them.

Backup and recovery checks are part of its monthly service. For an office, ask for guest Wi-Fi kept apart from the staff network, how backups are stored and tested, and what support will cost once the installation ends.

Wireless networks sit alongside cabling in its infrastructure work. Ask which rooms will get a network cable and which will rely on Wi-Fi, and the reason for each choice.
