Ooredoo Maldives: home internet from a national network

Ooredoo Maldives is a telecom operator whose About page lists voice, data, broadband, content and enterprise services for consumers and businesses. The same page introduces Ooredoo as an international telecommunications company serving markets in the Middle East, North Africa and South-East Asia. It also highlights a nationwide submarine cable. The page says Ooredoo Maldives won gold, silver and bronze honours at the Asia Pacific Stevie Awards in 2022.

Ways to bring the internet home

SuperNet Fibre Broadband is its fibre service, where a glass-fibre cable carries the internet into the home. Its SuperNet add-ons are aimed at gaming and at streaming in high definition. The broadband page says unused data carries forward to the next month.

AirFibre is its wireless home broadband, carried over its fifth-generation mobile network.

Faseyha Home Broadband is plug-and-play wireless internet on its mobile network, and the FAQ says it works wherever you plug it into power. The Faseyha Mi-Fi is a portable router small enough to fit in a pocket, and a data SIM offers plug-and-play internet at home.

Camera packs for the home

Its Smart(er) Home packs pair a SuperNet connection with EZVIZ security devices. Depending on the pack, that means an indoor camera, a video doorbell, and an outdoor camera with its own solar panel. The page says the devices are run from the EZVIZ mobile app, with hands-free voice control as well.

Signing up, stores and help

Its FAQ says you can apply for SuperNet on its website, in the Ooredoo Super App or at the nearest Ooredoo Experience Center. On the SuperNet page, signing up runs in order: choose a plan in the Digital Shop, complete registration, then make the payment. For Faseyha, the registration step asks for your ID card. The SuperNet FAQ says any compatible modem can be used, and offers instalments on a modem bought from Ooredoo.

Its store list shows an Ooredoo Experience Centre in Hulhumalé Phase 2, and Club Premier lounges for premium customers in Malé and Hulhumalé. Each of these is listed for new SuperNet, Faseyha and AirFibre connections. Choosing a home connection: points to check

The tips below are general guidance on setting up home internet, not claims about Ooredoo Maldives. Its range covers both fibre and wireless home broadband. Ask which one suits your building. Fibre needs a cable run into the flat, while wireless broadband depends on a strong mobile signal where the router sits, so a spot near a window in a central room helps.

Its FAQ says customers can use their own modem, as long as it is compatible with the network. Ask how far the set-up goes inside the home. If some rooms need extra access points, small units that relay the signal, agree who adds them and who looks after them.

Its Smart(er) Home packs include indoor and outdoor cameras. With any home camera, check where clips are saved and for how long, who can log in to the app, and that outdoor lenses cover your own doorway rather than the corridor or a neighbour's door.

Its AirFibre page ties its device offer to a signed broadband device contract on an AirFibre postpaid plan, one that is billed each month. Read any device contract before signing: how long it runs, and what changes if you move to another plan.
