Focus Computers

Apple, HP and HPE service from Malé

Focus Computers is an IT company in Malé whose website says its certified engineers give brand-authorised service for Apple, HP and HPE. HPE, short for Hewlett Packard Enterprise, makes servers, storage and network gear for businesses. Its About page says it has delivered IT services in the Maldives for over two decades. Its Local.mv listing dates the company's start to 1994.

The About page names government institutions, enterprises, small and medium businesses and the hospitality sector as the groups it serves. Its PinkBazaar entry, under the name Focus Computers Private Limited, lists it for computer and laptop repair in Male (Malé).

Running networks and support for an organisation

Its managed ICT service stretches from buying hardware and designing networks to a helpdesk and on-site support. ICT means information and communications technology. The same page lists network monitoring, incident response and IT asset management. That support runs under an SLA, a written agreement on service standards, and the page describes the support as around-the-clock.

Security, cloud systems and backup

Its cybersecurity page offers security audits, penetration testing and assessments. Penetration testing is a planned, permitted attempt to break in, so that weak spots are found and closed. The page also lists endpoint protection, which is security software on each computer, along with firewalls and control over who can log in to what.

On the cloud side, it designs systems and moves them into public, private or hybrid cloud set-ups. The cloud page also names virtual desktops and servers, plus backup and disaster recovery held in the cloud. Disaster recovery means the copies and the plan that bring systems back after a failure, a fire or a flood.

Resorts, guest houses and big tenders

Its About page lists smart hospitality systems for resorts and guest houses. The resort page names guest-room automation and smart controls, along with connectivity and surveillance across a whole resort. It joins up POS tills and PMS booking software with a digital concierge, where a PMS is the system that runs rooms and reservations.

For larger buyers, its advisory page covers technology roadmaps, vendor evaluations, tender preparation and project oversight.

The Malé office and its hours

Its website gives office hours of nine to four from Sunday to Thursday and ten to four on Saturday, with Friday closed. The contact page sorts messages into general, tech support, sales and finance, with separate lines for sales and the service centre. Its Local.mv listing files it under desktops, laptops, printers and scanners, networking, and server storage and backup.

Points to raise before an IT support or backup deal

Backup sits among the cloud services on its website. What follows is general guidance for any home office or small business, not a statement about Focus Computers. Ask where each backup copy is kept, how often a test restore is run, and who gets an alert when a backup fails.

Its hospitality work includes connectivity for whole resorts. In a guest house or office, ask for guest Wi-Fi to run apart from the network that staff computers and tills use.

Its managed service is built around an SLA. Before you sign any support agreement, ask what it covers, how you report a fault, and when a technician visits instead of helping remotely.

Network design appears on its managed-services page. When new cabling goes in, ask for each cable run to be tested and labelled, with the test results handed over at the end.
